E.E. Cruz’s 148th Street Yard Flood Mitigation & Resiliency project in Manhattan, New York continues to uphold outstanding safety practices despite challenging times. Just recently, the project received the 2021 Building Trades Employers Association (BTEA) Awardfor Project Safety.
This prestigious accolade is part of the BTEA SafeBuild Program, an initiative designed to recognize outstanding construction safety performance and sponsored by BTEA’s Construction Safety Committee. E.E. Cruz is a proud member of BTEA.
Since the start of the job in 2017, the 148th Street Project Team has worked more than 154,000 man-hours with no Lost Time or Recordable Incidents.
In 2020, the project team managed to work more than72,000 man-hours while maintaining an unblemished Safety Performance Record, all while navigating the additional stress of the COVD-19 pandemic.
E.E. Cruz recently made significant changes to its corporate safety program.

Cruz has recently revamped our Corporate Safety Program, bringing new safety guidelines to the table and redirecting the employee mindset to teamwork-based safety practices,” says Joe Sheehan, E.E. Brian Cichetti, Corporate Safety Director played a key role in the rollout of the new and improved Corporate Safety Program that inherently led the project team to this record-breaking safety success.

Cruz safety program,” says Cichetti. “Project Manager Mike Quasarano and Safety Manager Mike Stella deliver the message every day that everyone on site is responsible and accountable for safety. That safety message was also supported by an outstanding project team. I am proud of everyone at E.E.
